Approximately 360 EVA-foam Puzzle Mats are being recalled by Health Canada and P.K. Douglass Inc., the Mississauga, Ontario-based importer of the product.
Designed for preschoolers, three and over, the affected puzzle mat (UPC #058445262668) features removable multi-colour cut-outs in the shape of numbers. The mats were sold at various Canadian retailers during a four-month period, June 14 to October 17, 2016.
According to the alert, Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program determined the mats do not meet the Canadian safety requirements for toys. Specifically, the mat can release small pieces, which can become lodged in a small child’s throat and cause choking.
As of November 25, 2016, P.K. Douglass said it had not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. However, Health Canada is advising consumers to immediately take the affected item away from kids and discard in regular household waste or return to their place of purchase for a full refund.
