Nova Scotia’s The Orb Factory was the lone Canadian firm to be named to the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association’s 2016 list of Best Toys for Kids. ASTRA revealed its annual selection of 24 award winners (in 17 categories), earlier this week.
The Orb Factory’s Fuzzeez Husky craft kit, which debuted at February’s North American International Toy Fair in NYC, shared the Creative Arts Play (3-7 year olds) category with the Craft-tastic Kindness Kit from the U.S.’s Ann Williams. (The Orb Factory won honours in the same category in 2015.)
This year’s award winners were selected from amongst 96 finalists on the basis of votes cast by ASTRA’s retailer members during last month’s annual Marketplace and Academy in Denver.
“ASTRA’s Best Toys for Kids award program is different from other top toy lists because it reflects the collective expertise of hundreds of toy retailers who know toys inside out,” explained ASTRA President Kimberly Mosley. “The list of winners is a well-balanced representation of the fun, top-quality, high play value products consumers can find in locally-owned neighborhood toy stores around the country,” she added.
