Wild Republic Maracas Recalled for Choking Risk

Three of seven Wild Republic maracas from K & M Toys Canada

Almost 2,300 wooden toy maracas made by Wild Republic have been recalled by Health Canada and K & M Toys Canada, the Mississauga, Ontario-based distributor of the product.

The recall involves seven models of the animal-themed toys, including Bear, Moose, Elephant, Giraffe, Snow Leopard, Tiger and Zebra — all feature earpieces attached at the top of the instrument. The earpieces can break off, releasing small parts from inside the maraca and posing a choking hazard to young children.

According to Health Canada, the affected toys were sold between March 2013 and May 2015 at various retailers across Canada. And while K & M Toys acknowledges one incident involving a toddler (no injury resulted), HC says it has not received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries in Canada.

However, consumers are advised to immediately remove the recalled items from children’s use and dispose of them in regular household garbage. For more details, contact Health Canada or K & M Toys Canada via its toll-free number: 1-800-396-8884.
