Health Canada and Jouet K.I.D. Inc. are recalling over 400 Little Hero Foam Puzzle Mats that were imported by the Quebec firm and sold through various retailers across Canada, earlier this fall (October 30 to November 15, 2016).
The recall involves one mat model only (UPC 489020030959), which features removable cut-outs in the shape of numbers and letters. The 36-piece puzzle mat is packaged in a transparent plastic bag.
According to Health Canada’s random sampling and evaluation program, the Little Hero Foam Puzzle Mat does not meet this country’s safety requirements for toys. The mat can release small pieces that can result in a choking hazard to young children, if they put the pieces in their mouths.
While neither Health Canada nor Jouet K.I.D. Inc. has received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of the mat to Canadian consumers, HC is advising caregivers to immediately take the affected toy away from children. They may return it to their place of purchase for a full refund.
HC also reminds consumers and retailers that it is prohibited under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act to sell, redistribute or even give away recalled products in Canada.
