Health Canada is recalling over 300 units of Geomag PRO Magnetic Construction Sets, which are manufactured in Switzerland by Geomagworld SA and imported into Canada by Quebec’s Hevelius Corp.
The recall involves only the ten models comprising the PRO collection that were sold through various retailers and Amazon.ca between December 2014 and October 2016. (No other Geomag lines or collections are affected.)
The PRO sets range in size from 44 pieces to 222 pieces and feature small powerful magnetic rods that combine with metal beads to build geometrical shapes and patterns.
According to the HC alert, the magnetic rods are small enough to be swallowed by a young child. If a child swallowed two or more of the rods in a short period of time, the magnets could attract one another while moving through the intestines. This can cause the intestines to twist, creating blockages or tearing of the intestinal walls. Some injuries can be life-threatening or result in life-long health problems.
While neither Health Canada nor Geomagworld SA has received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of these products in Canada, HC is advising caregivers to immediately take the affected magnet sets away from children. Consumers may also contact Geomagworld for a free replacement set of equal value.
