As the new master licensee for Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Jakks Pacific, Inc., a well-known California-based toy manufacturer with a Canadian branch in Brampton, Ontario, will develop and produce merchandise based on the upcoming TV series for preschoolers.
Under the recently signed deal with licensor The Fred Rogers Company and licensing agency Out of the Blue Enterprises, Jakks Pacific won the North American rights to distribute a wide range of lines, including plush, figures, playsets, vehicles, dolls and doll accessories, ride-ons, play tents, ball pits, role play, dress-up, novelties, kids’ furniture and seasonal items, such as Halloween costumes.
The Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood show, which is inspired by the beloved and long-running series Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, makes its television debut on PBS Kids in autumn 2012. The new series takes place in the Neighborhood of Make Believe and features Daniel, a shy young tiger, as well as characters that appeared in the earlier production. (Produced by 9 Story Entertainment Inc., the Toronto-based company is also the international distributor.)
Jakks says the collection, which targets kids, aged two to four, is scheduled to hit Canadian and U.S retailers’ shelves in 2014.
