The 4-in-1 Dramatic Play Theatre, which sold through North American catalogue and online retailers between July 2010 and April 2011, is being recalled by Guidecraft Inc. (the product’s supplier), Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Consumers, who’ve purchased the playset, are instructed to remove it from children’s use immediately.
According to the joint recall notice, the affected item may unexpectedly tip over during play, creating an entrapment hazard. Further, if tipped over, the theatre may break into small pieces, posing a choking hazard to young children. The made-in-China, wooden theatre — model #G51062 — features two interchangeable panels with unique themes, such as a post office, puppet theatre, doctors office and a diner, illustrated on each side.
Approximately 356 units of the recalled toys were sold in Canada, with an estimated 1,800 sold in the U.S. While Health Canada is not reporting any incidents or injuries relating to the item’s use by Canadian children, Guidecraft Inc., which is based in Minnesota, has received two reports from U.S. consumers. One report involves a child who suffered minor contusions and abrasions after the playset fell on him.
