Spider-Man Splat Toys Contain Toxic Bronopol Liquid

Tech4 Kids' Spiderman Splat Disc

Approximately 41,000 Marvel Spider Sense Spider-Man toys, containing splat-style balls, are being recalled by Health Canada and the toys’ Mississauga, Ontario distributor, Tech4Kids Inc. The recall pertains to: Marvel Spider Sense Spider-Man Splat Shot (Item # DT35657), Marvel Spider Sense Spider-Man Splat Ball (Item # DT35735), and the Marvel Spider Sense Spider-man Splat Shot Disc (Item # DT36023). (Balls were also available for purchase separately.) Consumers are advised to remove the items from children’s use immediately.

According to HC, the toys’ light rubber ball may break, releasing a substance known as bronopol. Strictly prohibited in Canada, the amount of bronopol inside the ball may be at a level that is considered to be toxic, causing irritation and inflammation to human skin and eyes.

The Spider Sense Splat Shot liquid-filled balls have demonstrated the potential to burst says Health Canada, adding it has received one report of a ball breaking. Tech4Kids Inc. has received two additional incident reports, saying one incident has resulted in a child suffering irritation and inflammation to the face and eyes.

Consumers may return any of the above affected toys to the retailer where it was purchased for a refund. For more information, visit the Tech4Kids Inc. website or call 1-800-359-6088.
