Approximately 22,440 Time 4 Crafts-brand kids’ aprons — sold through various dollar/discount stores between Feb 2008 and Jan 2012 — are being recalled by Health Canada (HC) and the product’s distributor, CTG Brands Inc.
According to HC, the yellow plastic apron (model #16625 and UPC #062823166257), contains a chemical, specifically Di-Ethylhexyl Phthalate (DEHP), in levels exceeding Canada’s allowable limits. HC warns parents that certain phthalates like DEHP, may cause reproductive and developmental abnormalities in young children when soft vinyl products — containing phthalates — are sucked or chewed for extended periods.
While neither Health Canada nor CTG, which is based in Vaughan, Ontario, has received any reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of this item, HC is advising consumers to remove the affected product from children’s use. It may be disposed of in regular household garbage.
For more information, consumers should contact CTG Brands Inc. at1-905-761-3330.
