Schleich, one of the world’s leading suppliers of figures and animal replicas, has announced the winners of its second annual Retailer Display Window Contest. More than 200 retailers in 15 countries answered Shleich’s challenge to create imaginative displays around the 2011 competition’s theme, “Who’s Your Hero?”.

Although first-place honours in the North American division went to fanTOYStic Toys & Gifts, of Muskegon, Michigan, a Canadian entrant, Boutique Les Petits of Drummondville, Quebec, took second place — sharing the position with Illinois’ Gepetto’s Toy Box.

Ten third-place winners from both sides of the border were also named, including seven Canadian stores:

  • Benjo, Quebec City, QC
  • Betty’s of Fort Frances Ltd., Fort Frances, ON
  • Diana’s Pets & Trophies, Edson, AB
  • Fincher’s, Goderich, ON
  • Gingerbread Toys, Prince George, BC
  • Teeter Totter Toys, Vernon, BC
  • The Toybox, Vancouver, BC

The contest, which ran last fall through September, asked retailers to create displays tying into Schleich’s 2011 launch of new hero figures within its best-selling World of Bayala and World of History lines. In support of the campaign, the German toy manufacturer supplied participating stores with free decorative posters, props and flyers. Once completed, retailers sent photos of their displays to Schleich, where a panel of 48 judges — comprised of international toy industry officials to media reps — selected the winning entries.

According to a Schleich press release, fanTOYStic Toys’ entry was well deserved with a company spokeman describing the display as, “Composed of five levels with an impressive design. At the lowest level, sharks and dolphins roam the seas, while above them all kinds of animals romp through the forest and jungle. Particularly impressive is the Coliseum with its lions, tigers and gladiators. And right at the top — mountains and sky.”
